We welcome Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports of Greece, to discuss his views on education in the age of AI and digital.

Developments in AI pose both a great challenge and an opportunity for its applications in the public sphere. The increasing digitisation of public services has many elements in common with the challenge of digitisation in education, where there is an opportunity to make education more responsive to students’ needs, simplify processes and create reservoirs of knowledge.

The Florence School of Transnational Governance is delighted to welcome Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, former Greek Minister of Digital Governance and now Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, to discuss his views on education in the age of AI and digital. In addition to his keynote speech, the event will serve as an occasion for a dialogue with a panel from the EUI community.

Kyriakos Pierrakakis is the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports in the Cabinet of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Member of the Hellenic Parliament since 2023. He is a computer and political scientist. In 2007, he earned a master’s in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and in 2009 a Master of Science in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Athens University of Economics and Business. Currently, he is a Doctoral Candidate in Political Science at Heidelberg University. From 2019 to 2023 he served as Minister of Digital Governance. During his tenure, he digitized and simplified government services through the development of citizen-centric digital platforms such as gov.gr, Greece’s single point of access to government services, digital IDs and driving licenses (Gov.gr Wallet app), and electronic healthcare and prescription records (MyHealth app). As Minister of Education, he aims to build a modern and more inclusive educational system designed to help students unlock their potential.

The event will be held in the Elinor Ostrom room at Palazzo Buontalenti, the premises of the Florence School of Transnational Governance, EUI. All are welcome to attend. Please register, indicating if you will attend in person or online. Please note that online viewers will not be able to participate in the Q&A.

Following the public event, there will be an occasion for the Greek EUI community to meet Minister Pierrakakis for an informal discussion.
